Tyrrell Hatton has confessed to feeling “so bad” about potentially missing Matt Fitzpatrick’s wedding due to a scheduling conflict with the Andalucia Masters at Sotogrande.
The 2023 Ryder Cup star is set to tie the knot with Katherine Gaal later this month, a date that unfortunately coincides with the Spanish tournament. While this wasn’t an issue for Fitzpatrick, it did pose potential problems for his guest list.
Hatton had to give his former teammate a heads up that he might not be able to make it as he is eager to qualify for Team Europe at next year’s Ryder Cup.
The 32-year-old managed to secure a strong position over the weekend by winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. This victory places him in the top 70 of the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai standings and guarantees him two spots in the season’s final events.

Having now made four DP World Tour appearances to meet the Ryder Cup threshold, Hatton’s success puts him among the current top six automatic qualifiers for Luke Donald’s team.
However, the journey hasn’t been easy for the Brit. The LIV Golf star recently opened up about the difficult conversation he had with Fitzgerald regarding his wedding a celebration he can now attend thanks to his triumph at St Andrews.
Hatton revealed: “Winning here this week allows me to take some time off. This was my fourth week in a row. I really wanted to get into Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and at the start of last week, I was 94 in rankings.

“I was prepared to play in Sotogrande, and maybe even South Korea if I needed to, to try and make it to Abu Dhabi.
“I was meant to be going to Fitzy’s wedding the week in Spain, and I messaged him a few weeks ago and I was like, if I don’t have enough points, I might not be able to go and I felt so bad about that. I guess having a little extra motivation to play well.”
With his sights set on upcoming tournaments in Abu Dhabi, Hatton is certainly looking forward to some well-deserved time off. This break should serve him well as he vies for one of the coveted 12 spots on Team Europe.
