Tom Brady’s unusual pronunciation of the word ‘sack’ has left FOX NFL Sunday fans baffled, as it seems his east and west coast accents have merged.
Brady was one of the lead commentators at the Minnesota Vikings match-up versus the Green Bay Packers in one of the biggest battles of the NFC North in some time. While Sam Darnold’s Vikings won the game 27-25 and claimed the number one seed for the playoffs, it was Brady’s version of the word ‘sack’ that had viewers more tuned in.
The 47-year-old was discussing Darnold’s high frequency of being tackled in the pocket. He is the fourth most sacked quarterback in the league – with Caleb Williams, CJ Stroud and Geno Smith the only athletes beating him. Brady said: “Theyve done such a good job in protection today.
“Sam may have a little sense of comfort, [but] at some point, youve gotta get rid of the ball. Hes held onto the ball quite a bit this season, and hes taken a lot of sacks. Almost 46 sacks this season alone.”
While the facts were on the money, Brady pronounced the word ‘sack’ more like ‘stuck’ or even the word sock – something that many fans have attributed to his upbringing in California and time spent east in New England. Viewers took to social media to discuss his language mishap, as one person wrote: “Bro’s Boston accent clicked in real quick.”
Another added: “Cali and Boston accent got him,” and a third said: “Born in CA, went to school in MI, lived in MA. Basically three low key weird accents rolled into one.”
This wasn’t the only time Brady raised eyebrows on the FOX broadcast, however, as he forgot that the Vikings had already beaten the Packers earlier this season. Brady said: “Theyve got four losses this year, Green Bay does.
“Two of them to the Lions, theyre a good team. The Eagles, they lost to them, theyre a good team. And they lost to the, uh whod they lose to the other one? Anyway…”
This fact was key information to the NFC North match-up, as the Minnesota win set them up for an epic battle with the Detroit Lions next week. Meanwhile, the Packers loss has dropped them to the seventh seed in the playoff picture, meaning their divisional rival game against the Bears is an even more important one.
