SPORT NEWS: Who Decides NFL All-Pro Rosters as NFL MVP Implications Become Clearer.giang

The 2024 NFL All-Pro teams featured one major surprise: Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was decisively named First-team All-Pro over NFL MVP rival Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills.

Jackson captured 30 of the 50 votes to Allen’s 18 (Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow earned the other two) in what could be a snapshot of the NFL MVP vote. The 50-person panel that votes for the AP All-Pro vote also votes on the MVP Award.

Every First-team All-Pro quarterback has captured the league’s MVP award since 2012 when Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson bested Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning. Former Tennessee Titans signal-caller Steve McNair was the last Second-team All-Pro to win the 2003 MVP award.

However, he only earned co-MVP honors – McNair split the award with then-Indianapolis Colts (and First-team All-Pro) quarterback Manning.

Allen will hope to emulate John Elway in 1987. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana was named First-team All-Pro but finished third in the MVP voting behind winner Elway and Montana’s Hall of Fame teammate Jerry Rice.

Allen piloted the Bills to a 13-4 record (13-3 in games he finished) while completing 63.6% of his passes for 3,731 yards with a 28-6 touchdown-interception ratio. He added 531 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground to earn a 77.2 QBR (the second-best figure in the league).

Jackson and the Ravens finished 12-5 as he completed 66.7% of his passes for 4,172 yards and a sparking 41-4 touchdown-interception ratio.

While the Baltimore quarterback had substantially more rushing yards (915) than Allen, his four touchdowns trailed the Bills signal caller. Jackson’s 77.5 QBR was narrowly the best mark in the league.

The rest of the All-Pro vote went mostly as expected. Receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson were the only two undefeated First-team nominations.

Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain accrued the most votes on the defensive side of the ball, capturing 49 of the 50 available. “That’s a huge honor,” he said. “That’s one of the accolades I definitely had goals for.”

Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph earned First-team All-Pro recognition despite missing the Pro Bowl entirely. His Lions tied for the NFL lead – along with the Ravens and the Philadelphia Eagles – with six players named.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Tristan Wirfts became the first player voted First-team All-Pro at both left and right tackle after securing the nod on the blind side for the 2024 campaign.
