A whole host of big names from men’s professional golf have been linked with a cameo role in the sequel of Happy Gilmore which will be released on Netflix in the New Year.
Almost 30 years on from the release of one of the most iconic sports movies of all time, Adam Sandler announced earlier this year that he will be returning as the rogue golf star for a second stint. On Christmas Day, Sandler gave fans a first glimpse of what they could expect after dropping the trailer on social media.
In the clip, Sandler himself of course features throughout as Happy, with a return also lined up for Modern Family star Julie Bowen, who plays Gilmore’s on-screen partner Virginia Venit.
Fans will have also been pleased to see Christopher McDonald is back for the sequel, which will reignite Happy’s rivalry with his character Shooter McGavin. Eagle-eyed football fans will have also noticed a familiar face in Travis Kelce, who makes a cameo as a waiter in the trailer.

Excitement is also building around some of golf’s biggest stars playing a role in the Sandler production too. One name who is expected to make the final cut is LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau, who sent his social media followers into a frenzy following the release of the documentary.
While DeChambeau did not feature in the preview clip, he did appear to all but confirm his cameo with a post of his own on Instagram. Sharing the trailer, DeChambeau also included a picture of him alongside Sandler and the U.S. Open trophy he won in June.
Also included in the Crushers captain’s post was a shot of him posing with Happy’s iconic hockey stick putter, as well as a photo of him with the film crew behind the scenes. What an experience…,” the two-time major champion wrote. “HAPPY GILMORE 2 coming to Netflix in 2025.”
DeChambeau would not be the first star to feature alongside Sandler, after PGA Tour icon and six-time major winner Lee Trevino featured in the first Happy Gilmore film. And following his original appearance, Trevino has once again been linked with a role.
Also rumored to be making an appearance in the sequel is another major champion, Rory McIlroy. McIlroy’s links to the movie started in September after Today’s Golfer reported that his manager Sean O’Flaherty was heard claiming at the BMW PGA Championship that the Northern Irishman was unable to attend an event due to a clash with Happy Gilmore 2 filming.
McIlroy or his manager are yet to officially confirm whether he will make an appearance. One man who has announced he will play a part alongside Sandler though is former Open champion John Daly.
Asked by “The Gunz Show” whether he would be offered a role, Daly said this fall: “I’ve already filmed it. We’re getting it done… Coming out on Netflix maybe in March or April of next year.”
Elsewhere a number of other huge names have been linked to the movie, per Yardbarker. These include Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Brooks Koepka.
