Carson Beck has made a surprise U-turn after initially declaring for the NFL Draft. Just a day after entering the transfer portal, he has announced his commitment to the University of Miami.

Beck follow in the footsteps of Cam Ward, who declared for the NFL Draft after the 2023 season before instead transferring to Miami. He went on to have a sensational season, becoming favorite to be drafted first overall in the upcoming class.

Beck will replace Ward as the Hurricanes’ starting quarterback, leaving the Georgia Bulldogs after five years with the school while spending his last year of eligibility with Miami before hoping to become a top pick in the 2026 draft.

The former Georgia quarterback came into the year as the favorite to be the first overall draft pick, being seen as the best quarterback in the draft class, above the likes of Shedeur Sanders, Quinn Ewers and Cam Ward.

But despite Beck throwing for a career-high 28 touchdowns in 13 games this season, he had been hugely hampered by turnovers, throwing 12 interceptions for the Bulldogs while fans called for him to be benched on several occasions.

Beck will now join Miami’s quarterback-friendly offense, ran by head coach Mario Cristobal, that has elevated Justin Herbert as well as Ward. He is also dating Hanna Cavinder, who is a women’s college basketball player at Miami.

While wanting to hit the NFL Draft at the right time, it appears that NIL deals might have played a significant factor in Beck’s decision with reports emerging that he could become one of the highest-paid transfers in college football history while sealing a NIL deal to join Miami.

Beck is a two-time National Championship winner with Georgia, while being the back-up to Stetson Bennett, as he’ll now compete in the ACC against weaker opponents – hoping to enhance his draft stock ahead of 2026.

After leaving Georgia, his former offensive coordinator Mike Bobo spoke highly of him, while stating: “The past five years at the University of Georgia have been nothing short of a dream come true and I will forever cherish the memories that have been made. Thank you Dawg Nation for the time I’ve been here and to those who’ve supported and believed in me, thank you. It’s been an incredible journey and all these moments have ultimately led me to take the next step in my football career.”
