Paul Skenes and Olivia Dunne were pictured in a bar and posted an image of Bourbon Street showing that the two where nearby just hours before the horrifying terror attacks in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
The LSU-graduates had been spending their time in New Orleans for the New Year, just 30 minutes away from the Baton Rouge campus in which they both studied.
Images were posted of the two with two friends as they partied ahead of New Year’s Day, hours before a man had killed 10 people in a terror attack in the early hours.
The man, who has now been indentified, drove a vehicle at high speed into a crowd of pedestrians in New Orleans bustling French Quarter district at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday along Bourbon Street. A large amount of people had been in the area celebrating New Year’s Eve, as well as being present for the Sugar Bowl being played the following night – which had to be postponed a day due to safety concerns. It has been confirmed that the driver was killed in a shootout with police, being named as Shamsud Din-Jabbar.
After the incident, social media star Dunne showed an image which appeared to show a packed Bourbon Street hours before the deadly attack with a heartbroken emoji. She had also posted a TikTok video on December 31, wearing the same outfit that she’d been pictured in while out in New Orleans.
Videos have shown the driver evade police by quickly driving past them and around a bollard, where he was able to get onto the street in a white pick-up truck.
There are 30 injured patients that have been transported by NOEMS and 10 fatalities,” the city said, using an acronym for the New Orleans Emergency Medical Services.
Describing to CNN the shocking moment the vehicle hit, Kevin Garcia, 22, said: All I seen was a truck slamming into everyone on the left side of Bourbon sidewalk… A body came flying at me, and said he heard gunshots being fired.”
Din-Jabbar was shot dead by officers with two officers shot in the process, both said to be stable.
