The NFL has decided to flex the Dallas Cowboys clash with the Philadelphia Eagles back to the lunchtime slot with the Minnesota Vikings showdown with the Green Bay Packers being added to the more prominent late afternoon slate.
Week 17 features the penultimate slate of games for the 2024 NFL season. With the playoff picture taking shape, the Cowboys-Eagles clash has been moved from the 4:25 p.m. ET national window slot in favor of what could be an epic NFC North clash.
As a result, the Cowboys game with the Eagles has now been scheduled for the 1 p.m. ET window. This was the time the Packers-Vikings game was originally due to take place.
Last week, the Cowboys were officially eliminated from playoff contention despite securing a 26-24 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 7-8 Cowboys have endured a difficult season, with the defense failing to match the standards of previous seasons while Dak Prescott struggled before going down with a season-ending injury.
In addition to the Cowboys falling out of the playoff race, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is uncertain to feature after he suffered a concussion in the loss to the Washington Commanders. However, the Eagles, who can seal a second division title in three years with a win in the final two weeks, are still in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
Objectively, the clash between the Vikings and Packers is significantly higher stakes. The 11-4 Packers and 13-2 Vikings have both sealed playoff berths, but Minnesota is looking to potentially win out to take the NFC North crown and the No. 1 seed in the conference.

On top of this, the rivals simply represent two of the best teams in the NFL – as well as heated rivals. It therefore makes sense the Packers-Vikings game is being moved to a more prominent slot.
While the Packers, Vikings, and Eagles have the postseason to look forward to, the Cowboys can turn their attention to the offseason – which includes addressing the future of Micah Parsons. The star linebacker has dominated since entering the league as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, tallying two First-team All-Pro nominations as well as three successive Pro Bowl appearances and the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Parsons is in the final year of his original rookie contract. In 2025, he will play under the fifth-year option, making $24 million, and after that, he’s slated to become a free agent unless he inks a blockbuster deal with the Cowboys.
