A Florida meteorologist was visibly shaken during a recent broadcast as he discussed the potentially catastrophic effects of Hurricane Milton.
John Morales, an NBC affiliate WTVJ meteorologist, struggled to maintain his composure while delivering updates on the storm during a telecast on Monday, Oct. 7.
“Incredible, incredible hurricane,” Morales began, his voice wavering as tears welled up in his eyes. “It has dropped 50 millibars in 10 hours.”
“I apologize — this is just horrific,” he added, before continuing the broadcast while off-camera, although viewers could still hear the emotion in his voice throughout the segment.
Later, Morales shared his thoughts on X, reflecting on how extreme weather events driven by climate change have impacted him. “I invite you to read my introspection on how extreme weather… has changed me. Frankly, YOU should be shaken too,” he wrote.
On Monday, Hurricane Milton escalated to a Category 3 storm and quickly intensified to a Category 5, with potential storm surges of at least 12 feet and winds reaching up to 160 mph. The storm is expected to weaken before making landfall near Tampa, Florida, on Wednesday, Oct. 9, as a Category 3 hurricane.
Due to the storm’s severity, multiple counties in Florida remain under a state of emergency, and Orlando International Airport plans to suspend operations on Wednesday. Milton is the latest storm to hit Florida, following the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene just two weeks prior.
