Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve slammed the individuals throwing neon green sex toys onto the court at WNBA games for sexualizing female athletes

Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve warned that the individuals throwing sex toys on the court at WNBA games are promoting the sexualization of women before calling for those responsible to be punished.

Over the last two weeks, four WNBA games have been briefly halted after a bright neon green sex toy was hurled into the area of play  with another incident nearly taking place.

Most recently, Tuesdays contest between the Los Angeles Sparks and Indiana Fever was momentarily paused once an unruly fan tossed the object in the direction of Sophie Cunningham and Kelsey Plum.

In light of recent events, Reeve pulled a scrum of reporters aside during Thursdays Lynx practice to stress the severity of the sex toy trend spreading rampant across the WNBA. This has been going on for centuries  the sexualization of women, she began.

This is the latest version of that. And it is not funny, and it should not be the butt of jokes on any radio show, or in print, or in any comments.

The sexualization of women is what is used to hold women down. And this is no different.  These people that are doing this should be held accountable. Were not the butt of the joke. They are the problem and we need to take action.

Reeve is far from the only coach in the league to speak out against the recurring issue. “Its ridiculous, its dumb, its stupid,” Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts said during a post-game press conference.

“Its also dangerous. Player safety is No. 1, respecting the game, all those things. I think its really stupid.”

In response to the increased number of objects being thrown on the court, the WNBA warned that individuals behind the act will be “immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban on top of potential punishments from authorities.

“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league,” the league said in an official statement. “Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans.

In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”

On Thursday, a group of Cryptocurrency meme coin creators took responsibility for the green sex toy trend. Speaking to USA Today, a spokesperson who goes by @Daldo_Raine on social media revealed that the incidents were meant to garner attention for the Green Dildo Coin (DILDO)  not to demean womens sports or female athletes.

“We didn’t do this because like we dislike women’s sports or, like, some of the narratives that are trending right now are ridiculous,” he said. “Creating disruption at games is like, it happens in every single sport, right? We’ve seen it in the NFL, we’ve seen it in hockey, you know  fans doing random things to more or less create attention.

“We knew that in order to get a voice in the space … we had to go out and do some viral stunts to save us from having to pay that influencer cabal, sacrifice our souls and the fate of the project.”
