In a startling incident kept largely under wraps, a bullet tore through the glass of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reids office at the teams practice facility in May 2024 while Reid was inside.
According to The Kansas City Star, the bullet shattered the window and blinds before lodging itself into a wall between Reids bathroom and office entry, just 15 feet from his desk. Officials confirmed that Reid, who recently fueled speculation of a wedding between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, was not injured and neither was anyone else in the vicinity.
Kansas City Police Department Capt. Jacob Becchina described the incident, which was not mentioned on ESPN’s new Chiefs-focused docuseries ‘The Kingdom’, as being investigated as an aggravated assault, emphasizing: There is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization.
Remarkably, the episode remained a well-hidden secret within the organization for the past 15 months. Even many players and staff were unaware of the danger Reid had faced.
The bullet was one of three that struck the facility that night. One hit a third-floor space above Reids office, and another struck an external air conditioning unit. Authorities have not disclosed any arrests or charges, and the investigation remains open.
In response, the Chiefs have bolstered their security at the facility. Reids office is now equipped with bulletproof glass, and the team has added perimeter fencing and increased surveillance with multiple cameras.
Reid, revered as one of the most successful and enduring coaches in NFL history, helmed the Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories since taking over in 2013. Coming into the 2025 season, he holds 273 career wins, fourth all-time.
The practice facility lies within the Truman Sports Complex, adjacent to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Reid is known for working late into the night in his office there, a habit that unexpectedly placed him in harms way.
The Chiefs have so far declined to comment publicly on the matter. However, the installed security upgrades and reinforced spending show how seriously the franchise is treating the event.
