Sex and the City alum Chris Noth, who was fired from And Just Like That, appears to have taken sides in Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall’s long-running spat
HBO’s Sex and the City alum Chris Noth appears to have taken sides in Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall’s years-long bitter feud.
The 70-year-old, who was fired from And Just Like That after being accused of sexual assault in 2021, was the only Sex and the City cast member who wished Cattrall a happy 69th birthday on Instagram. The blond actress captioned her August 21 post, “Thank you for all your Birthday wishes! Go Moon Mammoths!”
Parker and Cattrall have never had a good relationship, but speculation of a feud between the pair hit an all-time high when news broke of Cattralls absence from And Just Like That, HBO Max’s revival about Carrie (Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis).
In 2021, Noth spoke to The Guardian about the revival and was asked about Cattrall’s absence. “I have to tell you, I have absolutely no idea what her thinking is, or her emotions,” he told the outlet. “I do know that Im very close with SJ and [Cattralls] descriptions of her dont even come close.
“I liked her, I thought she was marvelous in the show and some people move on for their own reasons. I dont know what hers were. I just wish that whole thing had never happened because it was sad and uncomfortable.”
When asked if the drama made things awkward for the cast, he replied, “I just dont like to see anyone talking down about SJ because shes a target and people can be nasty. I feel very protective of her and I was not happy about that. Thats all Ill say about that.”
In a 2022 interview with Variety, Cattrall opened up about And Just Like That…, saying, “Its a great wisdom to know when enough is enough. I also didnt want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear.
She added, “I certainly heard about it [And Just Like That…]. And Ive come to the conclusion that really the greatest compliment I could have as an actor is to be missed.”
When asked whether she was ever friends with her co-stars, Cattrall responded, “I guess its how you define friends. I think we were colleagues. My colleagues arent my friends. It was professional.”
Cattrall also commented on Parker’s previous comments, in which the actress said she would not be okay with Cattrall returning to the franchise because “theres just too much public history of feelings on her part that shes shared.” Cattrall said of the comments, “I dont think I read it,” while also confirming she will not appear in AJLT. “Thats a no. Its powerful to say no.”
In the June 1 episode of The Hollywood Reporters Awards Chatter podcast (per Elle), Parker discussed Cattralls absence from the revival saying, “Its very hard to talk about this situation with Kim, because Ive been so careful about not ever wanting to say anything that is unpleasant, because its not the way I like to conduct conversations that are as complicated as this.”
In response to Cattralls past comments about her, she added there hasnt been “anyone else whos ever talked about me this way,” and its “very painful.”
Parker also said, “We did not ask her to be part of this [the reboot], because she made it clear that that wasnt something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didnt occur to us. But thats not ‘slamming’ her, its just learning.
“Youve got to listen to somebody, and if theyre publicly talking about something, and it doesnt suggest its someplace they want to be or a person they want to play or an environment in which they want to be, you get to an age where youre like, ‘Well, we hear that.'”
On August 1, HBO announced mid-Season 3 of And Just Like That… that the series would be canceled. That same day, Cattrall shared a photo of the sunset over water, writing in the caption, “Its the end of a very long week.”
On Wednesday, Cattrall “liked” a comment shared by Instagram user @royal_j0j0, who wrote, “And just like that. We all know is was Sam (Kim) who carried that entire franchise. You, embodied everything that is the essence of a strong, powerful, and vulnerable woman. We love and respect you.”
