Aaron Rodgers has his eyes on four NFL landing spots if he leaves the New York Jets after a disastrous season, with the four-time MVP intent on finishing his career “on his own terms.”
Rodgers, 41, has endured a miserable two-season stay with the Jets. His first year with the franchise was wrecked by a ruptured Achilles just four snaps into his debut. After working his way back to fitness, there were high hopes that the Jets could be a contender in the playoffs this season.
But the campaign has been an unmitigated disaster. The Jets are 4-12 heading into Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins, with head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas fired along the way.
The Jets will finish this season with a worse record than last year when the much-maligned Zach Wilson led “Gang Green” to a 7-10 record in Rodgers’ absence. The former Green Bay Packers superstar has been a shadow of his former self, ranking 20th in the league in passer rating and 27th in completion percentage.
But according to the Daily Mail, Rodgers is not ready to call time on his Hall of Fame career just yet. An unnamed source close to Rodgers claims he has his sights set on joining the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans or Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason.
“Aaron wants to play again and finish his career on his own terms and though he has mentioned he would like to continue playing with the Jets, he would love to be released and give it another go with another team,” the source said.
‘If the Jets keep him around, he will try to right the ship and give it one last go, but he believes he would be better used and be a better fit in Cleveland, Indianapolis or Tennessee, and he also would be interested in heading to Las Vegas.
‘That is where his mindset is at as he wants to play again, and he doesn’t believe that the Jets are the team that will take him to the promised land. It has obviously not worked with the Jets and there is no reason to believe that it would work next year, a third year with the Jets is not going to be a charm and both the team and Aaron will likely move on from each other.”
The four teams mentioned all have huge question marks at the quarterback position. The Browns appear intent on bringing back Deshaun Watson after his Achilles injury, but his performance levels have been woeful since being handed the league’s richest contract two years ago.
The Titans and Raiders are in desperate need of stability at QB, with a rotating cast for both teams unable to get the job done. The Colts, meanwhile, have deep concerns over 2023 first-round Anthony Richardson, who has been among the league’s worst quarterbacks this season across all metrics.
