The eGates will bring in biometric gates to a trio of US airports to speed up passengers’ experience and enhance security
The TSA is to roll out biometric e-gates at three major airports. Officials from the Transportation Security Administration have already removed the need for travelers to remove their shoes for screenings.
The organization is now introducing a “futuristic” way of getting through security when traveling by air, with several changes being made to how people operate in airports.
Tech firm CLEAR announced a pilot, with TSA to bring in biometric eGates to a trio of US airports to expedite the passenger experience and enhance security
The move comes ahead of 2026’s FIFA World Cup and the 250th anniversary celebration of America, both expected to increase tourism for the country.
The gates will allow travelers to skip the TSA area where IDs are verified and boarding passes shown before going into the security screening area.
To to use the eGates, you’ll need to be a CLEAR+ member. A spokesman said: “Currently, those with CLEAR+ are able to stop at a CLEAR Pod, available in 59 U.S. airports, to verify their identity with their eyes or fingerprints. At airports with eGates, CLEAR+ members will be able to skip the Pod.”
According to the firm eGates use real-time biometric verification and match your face on your identity document and your boarding pass.
TSA will oversee the gates with agents triggering gate access, conducting security vetting, and enforcing government security requirements.
The move comes after the agency introduced lines dedicated for families.
.The eGates will be introduced at three airports this month. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia started on August 19.
Ronald Reagan National Airport in the District of Columbia next week and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington in the last week of August.
More airports are expected to provide eGates at 30 additional airports by the end of the year. Caryn Seidman Becker of CLEAR+ is investing in technology at no cost to taxpayers.
He said Clear’s secure identity platform will help unlock a better, safer, and more frictionless experience for all travelers.
Kristi Noem, of the Department of Homeland Security Secretary the agency had been reviewing ways to make through TSA easier.
Dedicated lines for service members and their families are also planned by the TSA. Future updates to the security process may also include easing the liquids rule.

The Mirror US reported earlier travelers wanting to get through airport lines quicker can access shorter lines after a PreCheck deal was announced by the Transport Security Administration (TSA).
The organization wants to people avoid the stresses of queueing as they fly to their destination.
Eligible passengers enrolled in PreCheck service unveiled in 2013 for a faster, more efficient, and more convenient screening process.
The useful deal is being offered again to allow travelers to gain TSA PreCheck status.
