Aaron Rodgers has made it clear that he plans to continue his NFL career next season, but his ideal landing spot may come at the expense of another star quarterback.
According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Rodgers has expressed a strong preference to play for the Los Angeles Rams in 2025. The four-time NFL MVP reportedly views L.A. as his dream destination and would also want to reunite with his former Green Bay Packers teammate, wide receiver Davante Adams.
While Rodgers may see himself leading the Rams next season, there’s a significant obstacle standing in his way—Matthew Stafford.
Stafford’s Future in L.A. Remains Uncertain
The Rams already have a capable veteran under center, and Stafford just led them to a playoff berth in 2024. However, the 37-year-old quarterback’s contract situation has created some uncertainty about his future with the team.
Stafford is entering the final year of his deal with the Rams, set to make $23 million in base salary next season. While that number is significantly below market value for a quarterback of his caliber, the real issue is that he has no guaranteed money remaining on his contract.
Reports suggest that Stafford is only willing to remain in Los Angeles if he and the team can agree on a restructured contract with more financial security. The Rams, on the other hand, have publicly stated that they want Stafford back, yet they have reportedly given his agent permission to explore trade options.
This leaves the door slightly open for a potential quarterback change, and Rodgers appears to be interested in stepping into Stafford’s role if the veteran and the team decide to part ways.

Would the Rams Even Consider Rodgers?
Rodgers is still technically under contract with the New York Jets, though the team is expected to release him. Meanwhile, Adams has two years remaining on his deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, but all indications are that he is open to a fresh start elsewhere—possibly alongside his former quarterback.
On paper, the Rams might be an appealing landing spot for Rodgers. The team is led by one of the league’s best offensive minds in head coach Sean McVay and boasts a talented roster that made a deep postseason run in 2024, reaching the NFC Divisional Round.
But would the Rams actually view Rodgers as a viable option? That’s another story.
Statistically, Rodgers and Stafford posted similar numbers last season, but Stafford had more team success. Rodgers finished the year with 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. While those numbers seem solid, his actual on-field performance was underwhelming.
Stafford, by comparison, threw for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions while leading the Rams to a 10-7 record, an NFC West title, and a playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
While Stafford remains a sought-after quarterback, with several teams reportedly showing interest in a potential trade, Rodgers’ market seems far less robust. Given his recent play, injury concerns, and contract situation, there likely aren’t many teams willing to guarantee him a starting role.

The Reality for Rodgers
At this stage in his career, Rodgers appears to recognize that his opportunities as a locked-in starter are limited. The idea of joining an established team like the Rams makes sense from his perspective, but L.A. might have bigger plans if they decide to move on from Stafford.
Even if the Rams do make a quarterback change, they could pursue younger, more long-term solutions rather than bringing in a soon-to-be 41-year-old Rodgers, whose best days are likely behind him.
Ultimately, while Rodgers may want to take over as the Rams’ next quarterback, the reality is that Los Angeles may not be interested—leaving his NFL future as uncertain as ever.
