Jimmy Butler, the Miami Heat star currently facing trade rumors, is now grappling with an intense off-court battle: a contentious paternity dispute with his ex-girlfriend, Kaitlin Nowak. In his motion, Butler claims to already pay $55,000 in monthly child support to Nowak and accuses her of being “unemployed and refusing to seek employment.” He contends that additional nanny expenses are unwarranted, especially given the substantial financial support he is already providing.
Butler Seeks Accountability for Child Support Funds
The court filing suggests that if Nowak claims she cannot afford a nanny despite the significant child support payments, Butler is entitled to a detailed accounting of how the funds are being used. The motion also raises the possibility of appointing a guardian ad litem to oversee expenditures related to the children.
“Child support is intended for the benefit of the children and only the children,” Butler’s attorney, Brian Karpf, said in a statement to the Daily Mail. “There is no justification for additional expenses here.” Karpf further emphasized that Butler is “a good dad” who remains dedicated to the care and well-being of his children.

Nowak’s Position
Nowak has reportedly insisted that Butler continue funding a nanny, arguing that such support is necessary for the children’s care. Her attorney, Paul Leinoff, stated that she intends to respond to Butler’s motion through her own legal filings, which will likely shed more light on her perspective.
The couple’s 2023 custody agreement, which remains confidential and sealed, was initially intended to be a private resolution. However, the dispute has now become a public matter as the two struggle to find common ground.
