A singer in Liverpool got an unexpected visit during his set.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, Billie Joe Armstrong watched Callum McMorran perform Green Day’s hit “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” at Cavern Club in Liverpool.

While McMorran played the 1997 classic on acoustic guitar, footage from the venue showed that Green Day’s lead singer was also filming the performance on his phone in an Instagram post.

“Imagine performing a @greenday song to Billie Joe Armstrong… Well our resident @callummcmorran got to on The Cavern Club front stage. 🤩” the venue captioned the clip.

McMorran also shared footage of the moment on Instagram following the gig, captioning the post: “Cool moment tonight 😎 🎸.”

Over the video, he wrote: “When you’re playing a Green Day Song…to the guy who wrote it.”

Cavern Club also shared a photo of the “Holiday” musician after the show on their Instagram page, posing next to a red phone booth.

“When Rock legends come to visit. 🎸🤩 Billie Joe Armstrong at The Cavern Club. ❤️ 🎸✨,” the venue captioned the post.

“Good Riddance (“Time of Your Life”) was featured on Green Day’s fifth album Nimrod. Many years earlier, Armstrong had written the song about his own frustration over a former girlfriend who went to Ecuador.

The wistful ballad-like track peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Located on Liverpool’s Matthew Street, Cavern Club was a hallmark of The Beatles’ early career. The band performed at the venue nearly 300 times between 1961 and 1963 — also the time when their careers exploded.

Since reopening its doors in 1991, Cavern Club hosts live music seven nights a week.

McMorran, who appeared on The Voice UK in 2015, is a resident musician at the Cavern.

Armstrong is also a fan of playing covers himself in The Coverups, his side project with Green Day member Mike Dirnt.

In February 2024, they performed in London and invited Courtney Love on stage with them.

During their special set, the “Celebrity Skin” singer, 60, sang several Cheap Trick songs, including “He’s a Whore” and “Surrender,” as well as Tom Petty’s “Even the Losers.”

She also teased a Hole reunion.

“Later, I’ll be back in Hole,” Love said in a fan-recorded clip.
