The Chicago Bears have a head coach opening, though legendary head coach Bill Belichick might pass on the opportunity to coach Caleb Williams.

On Friday, the Bears announced it fired head coach Matt Eberflus after Chicago lost another game, again in heartbreaking fashion. This time, it was against the Detroit Lions in a marquee Thanksgiving matchup which saw Eberflus inexplicably choose not to use a timeout late in the game.

And while the prospect of coaching Williams might be tantalizing to some coaches, Belichick might have a different opinion if the Bears approach the legendary head coach. After the Bears’ preseason loss to the Houston Texans, the 72-year-old made it clear he was not impressed by Williams.

During an episode of ‘Inside the NFL,’ Belichick broke down what he saw from Williams and his verdict on the former USC star was clear. “Whoever they played against in preseason, it wasn’t the best players on the other team,” Belichick said before adding: “He wasn’t accurate. He’s 10-for-20.”

When the rest of the panel raved about the passes Williams did convert on, Belichick remained unimpressed by the quality of the completed passes compared to the ones he missed. “Yeah, they weren’t that good,” the head coach continued, much to the amusement of his peers.

“There was a couple of highlight plays. But they weren’t that good.” Along with making his thoughts on Williams’ ability known, Belichick also explained that the Bears struggles are not solely on the young quarterback’s shoulders – rather they encapsulate the organization as a whole.

In November, Belichick criticized how a handful of teams, including the Bears, are constructed in the NFL, especially if they expect their young quarterbacks to succeed. Belichick said as much during an appearance on the ‘Pat McAfee Show‘ and also praised Williams in some respect.

“But, you know, to me, the bigger thing is just where the Bears are,” Belichick began. “I mean, they can’t protect, they can’t move the ball, they can’t score any points. [The Jacksonville Jaguars], same situation. I mean, you have several of these teams that just – we talked about this at the beginning of the year Pat, in Chicago.

“They have this All-Star quarterback, these All-Star receivers, the greatest skill players in the history of football. And the offensive line a problem. They can’t run the ball, they can’t protect. [D’Andre] Swift is doing all he can but it’s just hard.

“And then you get into a situation where too many negative plays, too many turnovers, too many long-yarded situations. And it’s been a tough look, they’ve had the benefit of the schedule. We’ll see how it goes here with the Bears and with Jacksonville and teams like that.”

And it appeared as if the Bears had run out of patience with Eberflus. During Chicago’s six-game losing streak, the Bears lost four of those contests by one score.

In the other two losses to the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots, Chicago only scored nine and three points, respectively. With how the season has quickly fallen off the rails, the Bears needed to make a move, though Belichick might not be interested in the opening.
