Amanda Serrano has admitted that she called on doctors to fix a gash on her face she sustained during her fight with Katie Taylor – as she worried that she would have to miss the clash between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.
The re-match for the women’s undisputed super lightweight world title proved a major hit with viewers, with an estimated 74 million people tuning in to watch the spectacle. The co-main event at AT&T Stadium on Nov. 15, the Netflix-backed contest was a repeat of 2022’s classic, with Taylor coming out on top via a split decision in that bout.
This time around, the judges all called the fight 95-94 in the Irishwoman’s favor, with this unanimous decision proving controversial as Serrano fell to defeat. The Puerto Rican had soldiered on during the bout after incurring a gruesome cut above her right eye, with her opponent having even incurred point deduction in the eighth round after it was adjudged that Taylor had headbutted her foe.

Reflecting on the injury she sustained in the affair, Serrano admitted that she was more concerned she would be unable to watch Paul vs. Tyson after picking up the cut. Looking back, she said: “Thank God that the doctor was a plastic surgeon and I told him, ‘Please, I have two requests’.
“Please don’t make it look really bad, and can you do it in a little rush? Because I have to go watch Jake,” the 36-year-old fighter continued. “[The doctor] did a great job and I’m happy with it. Thank God it’s in the shape of the eyebrow so you can barely see it with a little bit of makeup.”
The star, who is known to fans as “The Real Deal”, also revealed that her own entourage played down the severity of the gash to her face during the fight. She said “My corner, which is my brother-in-law and my sister, they kept it calm and cool. They didn’t tell me how big it was.

“When I went to the back and looked in the mirror. I was like. ‘Oh my God.’ It brought a tear to my eye because I was more sad for the people watching, especially my family back home, they had to see that, it was really gruesome.”
Despite falling to a second successive loss against Taylor, Serrano also expressed her pride after taking part in a landmark fight – which now stands as the most-watched women’s sporting event in American history. She said: “I’m just happy that I was a part of such a great event.
“It was truly amazing and just overall what we did in that ring where we showed so many millions of people that women can fight, bloody and all, big cuts and all, we went out there, there was no losing in me. I wasn’t quitting, I was gonna get the fans what they came to see and it was a great fight!”
