A jury of eight men and four women found on Friday, after a two-week trial in Dublin, Conor McGregor to be liable for the sexual assault of Nikita Ni Laimhin, also known as Nikita Hand. McGregor has been instructed to pay $257,000 to Hand, but said in a statement on X that he would appeal the decision.
Throughout the trial, there were five explosive claims made by Hand regarding McGregor, and what she alleged to have happened during a 2018 incident at a Dublin hotel. Police had investigated the complaint but did not bring criminal charges, citing insufficient evidence. The trial with McGregor instead headed to the civil court.
In a statement on X, which has since been removed from the platform, McGregor said he’d appeal “today’s decision.” He added: “I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence.”
Hand, meanwhile, thanked her legal team, the judge, jury, and witnesses. She also thanked the hospital that treated her for her injuries, her partner Gary, and her daughter Freya who, she said, had given her strength and courage in the six years since the alleged incident. “I want to show Freya and every other girl and boy that you can stand up for yourself if something happens to you, no matter who the person is and justice will be served.”

McGregor was allegedly angry about UFC loss
Two months before the alleged incident took place, McGregor returned to the UFC Octagon after two years away from the sport, when he fought Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in Las Vegas. After a hostile build-up to the bout, Nurmagomedov dominated McGregor and submitted him via neck crank in the fourth round.
Hand’s legal team, according to AP, told jurors that McGregor was apparently angry about this fight that he had lost and took that anger out on Hand. Attorney John Gordon said: “He’s not a man, he’s a coward. A devious coward and you should treat him for what he is.”
McGregor admitted sharing cocaine
Per AP, Hand said McGregor picked her and a friend of hers up in a car and, on the way to the Beacon Hotel, where the alleged incident took place, shared cocaine with them both. McGregor admitted to the claim in court.
Hand told McGregor she was menstruating and did not want sex with him
Hand reportedly said that she told McGregor “no” when he tried to kiss her. She said she told him she didn’t want to have sex because she was menstruating.
He pinned her to the bed, the court heard, and put her in a chokehold. “Now you know how I felt in the Octagon where I tapped out three times,” he apparently told her, referring to the fight he had lost. She apparently could not move while this was happening.

Paramedic testimony regarding Hand’s injuries
Hand said she suffered physical and mental injuries from the incident in 2018 with McGregor. A paramedic provided testimony about the level of bruising she endured. Hand also said she was unable to continue her work as a hairdresser because of the trauma.
