Dak Prescott sunk back in his chair with his hands on his head as the Dallas Cowboys came up short on an embarassing fourth-down attempt.

Hosting the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football, the Cowboys fell into an early hole when – on the opening possession of the game – Joe Mixon burst away to score a 45-yard touchdown run. This came just moments after Nico Collins scored a deep touchdown only for an offensive penalty to bring it back.

Seemingly startled by the Texans’ offensive firepower and their intimidating start to the game, the Cowboys attempted a bold play to keep the offense on the field. After Cooper Rush and co. had failed to move the sticks, Dallas attempted a fake punt on fourth down.

Punter Bryan Anger completed the pass, but the receiver came up well short. He was drilled inside the line to gain, and the Texans took over in advantageous position. Prescott was certainly not impressed, sinking back in disbelief at what was playing out at AT&T Stadium.

Prescott is out for the rest of the season following surgery on a torn hamstring injury. Meanwhile, the Cowboys sit third in the NFC East with a 3-6 records before facing the Texans, and their season is all but over before Thanksgiving.

Before the game, the Cowboys were left embarassed as bits of debris including a ‘large piece of metal’ fell from AT&T Stadium when the roof was being opened in preparation for the prime time clash with the Texans. No one was injured, but the piece fell near several people who were on the field preparing for the television broadcast, and it obviously raises safety concerns.

ESPN reported the situation was being reviewed to see if the visit of the Texans could be played without the roof. Upon noticing there was another metal sheet that appeared loose, the Cowboys opted to close the roof for the game.

The scary scene comes after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones joked he could “tear down” the stadium after star receiver CeedDee Lamb failed to catch a touchdown due to sunlight. While it’s unclear what cause the debris to fall or get loose, this is just another layer of ignominy to add to the derailed Cowboys season.

Mixon added a second touchdown to give the Texans a 14-point lead, but KaVontae Turpin scored a 64-yard touchdown to make the score 14-7 early in the second quarter.
