Before meeting Penny Lancaster, pop and rock singer Rod Stewart was certain he would not find love again, and two decades later, the couple is still going strong. Even when Lancaster went through her menopausal transitions, Stewart still saw her as the most beautiful woman.
Rod Stewart lived out his bachelor days to the fullest. The British rock and pop sensation has had a string of relationships and has six children with four women.
The rock star has a daughter, Sarah, from his teenage relationship. Stewart has two children, Kimberly and Sean, with his first wife, Alana Hamilton.
While he was dating Kelly Emberg, the two welcomed a daughter, Ruby. Then from his second marriage with Rachel Hunter, Stewart welcomed Renee and Liam.
After many unsuccessful relationships and two failed marriages, Stewart was confident his luck in finding love had run out. But his negative thoughts about companionship went out the window when he met supermodel Penny Lancaster in 1999.
The couple dated for seven years before Stewart went down on one knee in Paris in front of the Eiffel Tower. The singer is 24 years older than his wife, but he credits her for turning him into a dedicated husband and family man.
The “Sailing” hitmaker said he was shocked that Lancaster had put up with him for over two decades. “I am lost for words. They have not invented the words for how I feel about her. She is everything,” he gushed.
Before marrying his wife, Stewart admitted that he did not understand the work needed to build a healthy and loving marriage, but Lancaster helped him through it.
Despite the ups and downs in his relationships, Stewart clarified that his kids were the most important people in his life. “I cannot get enough of them,” he added.
Although Lancaster has positively impacted the singer, he said he also added value to his wife’s life. One thing he was sure he had improved in her was her confidence. When they first met, Lancaster was shy and did not talk much; now, Stewart said she’s not afraid to take space in a room.
Lancaster started her modeling career at a young age, and it quickly took off. The model landed a £200,000 deal to model for the lingerie and swimwear brand Ultimo in 2002.
What Happened to Rod’s Wife after She Made Him Dad of 2 More at 40?
The couple has two sons, Alastair and Aiden, but before welcoming them, Lancaster and her husband suffered two miscarriages. They eventually turned to IVF, which is how they conceived their firstborn child, Alastair.
Since the couple had been together for many years without children, they discussed how they would still nurture their relationship once the kids arrived.
Lancaster said they made a pact not to spend more than ten days apart. The former model expressed that having children can take up much time, but she sets aside quality time with her husband.
It might be easy juggling marriage and children, but Lancaster jokingly said, “I try and split my time between my eldest child, Rod, and my other two boys.” So, the couple would go out to dinner, have breakfast together, and, most importantly, check in with each other frequently.
Lancaster does not only check in with her husband but with her children as well. It is essential to her as a mother and wife that everyone is okay.
She admitted to experiencing a few menopausal symptoms that have taken a toll on her body, but she credited her husband and two sons for being the best supporters.
Lancaster and Stewart have a close relationship and are unafraid to share some of the most intimate things. Therefore, the mother of two tells her husband every detail of her hormonal changes, and when she needs space, she finds a polite way to reiterate it to her boys.
The TV personality gave a glimpse of how going through menopause can feel. “I’ve been having the really hot sweats, and then freezing cold… my body temperature is fluctuating all over the place. It affects your mood swings; I’ve been putting on more weight,” she explained.
She also confessed that the mood swings escalate. Lancaster recalled a day when she felt like nothing was going right. She was in the kitchen making dinner when something came over her, and she threw the dinner across the room and started crying.
Her sons were with her, but she asked them to give her a minute. Luckily, the Stewart family has open communication, so they discussed the incident after.
As Lancaster watched her body change, she admitted that she was frightened by menopause, so much so that she thought she was losing herself. “This is the end of the road. I am not going to have any more sex appeal….” she expressed.
However, she realized the older she got, the more grace she gave herself so she trained to become a police officer because she wanted to feel like she was still giving back to society.
The former model has also sought medical treatment to help relieve her menopause symptoms. “So now that I’m on HRT, it’s like a fresh start. Not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter,” she expressed.
Lancaster has embraced her menopausal phase and her body. The former lingerie model had a beach day with her sons and rocked a black and pink bikini.
When the mother of two went to grab a snack with her sons, she threw on a patterned cover-up and then swapped her sunglasses for spectacles to get a better view of her kids surfing.
However, Lancaster’s body was heavily criticized by Facebook users. Some commenters said there was no reason for her to look like that when she had a husband with money. “I’d rather see Rod in a bikini,” remarked a user.
“Nope. Nothing pretty about this. There’s a point one has to stop wearing a bikini!” said another user. One added, “Looks horrid in that inappropriate attire,” while others thought Lancaster was in denial about how her body looked.
However, it does not matter what the public says because Stewart has a different opinion about his wife. The rockstar doesn’t mind his wife’s weight gain; in fact, he said, “No, she is absolutely the most gorgeous woman I have ever had in my life.”
