Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub has a new proposal for Conor McGregor’s potential return to the octagon, suggesting that the Irishman should square off against Paddy Pimblett for his comeback fight.
The notorious former two-division champ, McGregor, has been out of action since his devastating leg break during his third bout with arch-nemesis Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in 2021. He was all set for a clash with Michael Chandler at UFC 303 this June but had to bow out due to injury, pushing his anticipated return further into the new year.
McGregor recently flaunted a clean drug test and made another public appeal to the UFC, signaling his readiness to step back into the fray. However, after McGregor’s exit from UFC 303, Chandler is now slated for a thrilling lightweight rematch against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 come November.

While McGregor’s eyes are set on the top dogs of the UFC, Schaub thinks he should aim a bit lower on the ladder first. Considering the length of McGregor’s hiatus, Schaub reckons a bout with Pimblett would be just the ticket.
Schaub shared his thoughts on a recent episode of his podcast, saying: “Let’s say he’s back mid-summer, like Q2, early Q3, let’s say Paddy Pimblett gets one more big win. Bobby Green was ranked in the top 15, let’s say he gets one more marquee win… Paddy Pimblett vs. Conor? You wouldn’t watch that?
“It puts Paddy on, and it’s [a good fight]. Conor has a significant advantage in striking, on the ground [it’s Paddy]. That’d be a fun fight. Paddy’s a huge name man, huge name, especially internationally he’s a massive star. It makes sense. You do that, or Max Holloway [for Conor], that’s what I’d do.”
Meanwhile, Schaub also teased the idea of Max Holloway, another excellent contender, matching up against the Dublin native for a highly anticipated bout. Holloway’s latest triumph solidified him at the pinnacle – a scintillating knockout over Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 clinched him the coveted ‘BMF’ belt.
With sights set on grandeur, the ex-featherweight titlist is all set for a marquee clash against reigning champ, Ilia Topuria, slated for UFC 308 this coming month in Abu Dhabi.
